We’re very excited to share our first guest blog post in collaboration with St Peter’s CE Primary Academy, part of DSAT, who have been using TrilbyTV since 2022. Becki Leo, Assistant Headteacher, tells us how the school uses TrilbyTV to engage staff and students with our Polls Smart Content. Â
After using Trilby TV for over a year, we wanted to explore new ways to engage our pupils with the content on the digital screens around school. That’s when we discovered the ‘Smart Content’ feature—specifically, the polls.
Each Monday morning, we launch a new poll that appears on the school’s digital screens as the children arrive. Using the announcement feature, we ensure the poll is prominently displayed across all screens for a set period, capturing children’s attention from the moment they walk in. It’s now become part of our school culture—children are genuinely excited to see what they’ll be voting on each week.
We carefully select questions that are opinion-based and designed to spark discussion. Recent examples include:
- Which would be the best superpower to have?
- Would you rather have fingers for toes or toes for fingers?
- If you could only move in one way all day, which would you choose?
This week’s question led to some brilliant debates—would hopping all day be more exhausting than doing star jumps? Is crawling worse if you’re on gravel? These simple, playful scenarios open up rich opportunities for children to explain their thinking, agree or disagree respectfully, and practise their oracy skills—one of our key curriculum drivers.

Staff love joining in too, and it’s been fantastic to see adults modelling how to justify their choices and engage in friendly debate. By the end of the week, we share the results of the poll both on the screens and in our weekly parent newsletter. It’s a simple way to continue the conversation at home and encourage children to share their opinions beyond the school gates.
This use of Smart Content is part of a wider strategy to make the most of TrilbyTV across our setting. We regularly share photos of learning from across the school, which helps pupils reflect on their achievements and builds a sense of pride. Screens are also themed by subject—our STEM screen, for example, displays key coding vocabulary, while our PE screen celebrates sporting achievements both in and out of school.

We also make use of TrilbyTV’s Content Catalogue to share relevant knowledge organisers and subject-specific materials in a visually engaging way. Whether it’s showcasing science experiments, highlighting topic work, or featuring creative writing, our screens are an evolving celebration of learning and pupil voice.
By thinking creatively about how to use TrilbyTV, we’ve been able to foster a culture of curiosity, conversation, and celebration throughout our school day—and we’re only just getting started.
