The ANME’s Top Tech Tips – helping to keep you safe online

The ANME (The Association of Network Managers in Education) is a community of network managers, formed back in 2014 by Rick Cowell and Ben Whitaker. Having both worked in schools for over 20 years, they wanted to expand their network meetings and bring their expertise to a wider audience, whilst also celebrating the importance of networking within the education industry. The ANME arrange meetings and conferences across the UK, where they discuss various tech topics and exciting new developments to look out for.

Supporting each other to stay safe online

The ANME’s ‘Top Tech Tips’ aim to support schools by making students aware of the security risks online. Simple tips that discuss things such as spotting the signs of anything that looks suspicious and telling someone if needed, particularly with social media. They also help students to develop an understanding that you shouldn’t share any personal information online, strengthening the topic of safeguarding and data protection. This can be a great way to ensure staff are aware of what to do if these circumstances should arise.

The slides include helpful information and advice to reinforce that staying safe online is everyone’s responsibility and that we should always be looking out for each other. Demonstrating the importance of cyber security and providing useful tips within an educational setting. They promote new ways of thinking, such as getting into a routine of using different passwords and using multi-factor authentication where possible and also encourages them to look out for suspicious links.
