Back in February, we went to visit Ysgol Glan Morfa in Splott, Cardiff to talk to Headteacher Meilir Tomos about digital signage and how it’s impacted his school. While we were there we had a chance to run some cheeky Under the Hat questions past him. Here’s what they revealed:
Meilir Tomos talks Digital Signage
What is your role in your current setting?
Headteacher
What’s the best thing about your job?
Seeing the children develop a grasp of the Welsh language, coming in without a word and leaving fluent. Seeing their written work in year six which is really quite amazing considering 99% of pupils couldn’t speak Welsh outside of school. It’s also really rewarding seeing pupils from disadvantaged areas get the same opportunities as children from more affluent areas. It’s great to give them good opportunities and a good start in life.
Why is sharing and showcasing digital content important to you?
To showcase what we do as a school, there is always lots of stuff going on. There’s cooking, singing and loads of different events where parents come in. Digital signage is a good way of showcasing the extra stuff and a nice digital way to sell the school and showcase what we do.
Why TrilbyTV?
Our IT reseller iTeach recommended TrilbyTV for our digital signage and I thought that it looks good. The service and support that we get is great.
What are your future plans for growing your school’s digital signage?
Extend the screens to the foundation area and then the hallway. Also eventually, we’ll give our students the power to share and upload content directly.
What idea or resource are you leaving in the hat?
Make sure that you have a number of people that are willing and reliable to update the screens. You need more than one person to keep it fresh and show enough variety.
