Getting Started

Taking your first steps with Digital Signage

Our guide to what you need in place for success

At TrilbyTV, we pride ourselves on keeping digital signage simple, so we want your journey to be straightforward from the very beginning. Whether you’re completely new to digital signage or you’re moving from another provider, this guide will give you a clear idea of what to expect when you implement TrilbyTV.

Get started in 5 easy steps

There are just five things you need to do to switch on your signage and, if you’ve already got your hardware set up, your screens could be showing content in minutes. Scroll down to find out more about setup on different devices.

A bit more detail…

First off, you will need a screen. This is usually a flat-screen TV mounted to a wall in a reasonably prominent position. It could be your reception area or a seating/waiting area.

You will need some additional hardware, something to run the TrilbyTV Player app. This hardware (we call it a ‘Player’) will be connected to the TV with a regular HDMI cable. It’s like a mini computer which our app works from. We suggest you talk with the person who looks after the other IT in your organisation. Show them our Hardware page, and they will be able to suggest a suitable ‘Player’ for the TV.

Apple

If you use Apple tech and love it, get AppleTV. This box of magic can be set up to run TrilbyTV in Single App mode via the same management tool that looks after your macOS, iPad and iPhone estate.

Google

If Google floats your boat, get a Lenovo Chromebox Micro. This can be managed within your Google Management account, like your Chrome devices. It runs TrilbyTV as a web app (aka PWA if you want to be geeky).

Windows

If you live the Windows life, get a mini PC with Windows installed. A VeryPC H085 box is a great solution. It has no fan and can be integrated into your existing AD Domain and controlled like any PC on your network.

Android screen

If you need a new TV screen, then you can buy a TV with the player hardware built in. We like the screens from Newline or Promethean. The Promethean ActivePanel D-Series is designed for signage and has features like power schedules for turning the TVs off overnight to save electricity.

And more

TrilbyTV Player will work on other Android, Windows and Apple devices. Some organisations use the Amazon Fire TV Stick, which is affordable, but aimed at the consumer market. While not designed for signage it is a budget-friendly entry point, but will need some restarting and managing.
