This week, we were joined by Jade Parkinson-Hill, UK Education Community Manager at Canva, for an exciting webinar packed with creative tips for your digital signage. To engage your school community with your screens, it’s important to keep them updated with fresh, visually captivating content. To help you, we showed you how to use Canva to create engaging content for three upcoming events: Anti-Bullying Week, Bonfire Night and Children in Need. If you missed it or you’d like to share with a colleague, you can rewatch the webinar on-demand.
We also announced a digital signage content competition for you and your students. Read on to find out more!

Creative digital signage
Canva is a firm favourite when it comes to design tools for schools and for good reason. It’s simple to use, whether you have design skills or not, and it’s completely free for schools. There’s a wealth of templates and ideas ready for you to use or you can start from scratch. Once you’ve got an idea, you can match your content to your school’s brand with colours, fonts and images.
With your new designs at the ready, it’s time to display them and give your work the attention it deserves. TrilbyTV makes it easy to get your content onto screens around your school in just a few minutes. Just upload your designs as images or video files, approve the content, select a playlist or a category, and see your creativity come to life.
Better still, everyone can get involved: school leaders, teachers, support staff and students. Content creation is fun, quick and accessible, making your digital signage relevant, engaging and a true reflection of all the voices and ideas at your school.

Timely signage content
There are a lot of events coming up this autumn and your digital signage is a great way to recognise, celebrate or spread awareness. Jade showed us how flexible Canva can be as a tool for creating seasonal designs while Terri demonstrated how easy it is to add your content to TrilbyTV to show to the right people, in the right place, at the right time. Here are a few of their top tips:
- Show off your school brand. Make your own colour palettes with Canva’s Brand Kit and easily apply them to your designs. You can even create different palettes for departments, year groups or school houses.
- Make templates work for you. Seen a Canva design you like but it’s for another event or topic? It’s simple to tweak it so it suits your needs.
- Tailor timings to the location of your screens. Think about how long people will be in the space – maybe a few minutes in reception or a few seconds in the corridors. Then use TrilbyTV to adjust how much time each piece of content will show for.
- Highlight key content. If you’d like a particular resource to stand out, you can add the content to your TrilbyTV Playlist multiple times so that it displays more often.

Win Canva prizes
We wrapped up the webinar with the launch of an exciting competition to win Canva print vouchers for your school and a special category for your students too. There will be One £150 school prize and One £50 student prize for each of the following categories:
- Anti-bullying week
- Bonfire Night
- Children in Need
To enter, you need to submit a design you’ve created for your digital signage using Canva, covering one of the themes above. The deadline for entries is Friday 14th November, when we’ll select the best design from one school and one student for each category. We’ll contact winners via email and showcase your amazing designs on our social media channels. We can’t wait to see what you create!
If you’re not a TrilbyTV user yet and you’d like an easy, cost-effective way to engage your school community, we’d love to hear from you. You can book a demo with our knowledgeable team or sign up for a free 30-day trial.
