It’s that time of year again, where prospective students and parents alike have to make the important decision of ‘where next’. Creating a good impression is vital and many schools sometimes can find it difficult to create an impact and show the wider community what makes their school so great. This is where digital signage can really make the difference as Francis Taylor, Assistant Head, Admissions and External Relations at St John’s College, Cardiff told us,
“We use TrilbyTV for A LOT at parents’ evenings! We use the screens located closest to the event along with a screen with a signage player on wheels that we move about and position where it is most impactful. We use the reception screen if parents, students or prospective students are asked to enter the school via main reception. The content displayed is always a welcome message and can include a direction arrow. We find that the welcomes are well received.”
Paint a picture of what makes your school so great
A great example of this is Brentwood School in Essex, inside their ambient, modern reception is a HUGE multi-screen video wall! It’s the perfect means to make a statement with their vision video showing exactly what goes on at Brentwood and communicating their brand identity as a school.
Head of ITSS, Sarb Singh told us, “I think that the four screen video wall in reception has the impact that it was supposed to have. It’s a pure marketing screen aimed at parents, prospective parents and pupils because that’s where they’re coming to. It’s a few snippets but it quickly and beautifully gives a picture of the whole school and the ethos of the school.”
Categories
With TrilbyTV, categories can be the perfect way to manage this. Categories in TrilbyTV are used to categorise or tag content and can be used to control what plays back on your screens. Categories allow you to set a ‘theme’ to a TrilbyTV Player and have it auto-refresh with new content as it is added to the category. You could also create a category for a specific screen, such as “Parents Evening”, and use that to manage what plays on it.

Whether it’s Year 7’s or Sixth Form, it can be easy to have the right content that’s relevant to the right audience, at the right time. TrilbyTV’s scheduling feature is the perfect way to do this, setting your content to change for your audience in the evening and automatically switch back at the end time. This has worked perfectly for St John’s College as Francis told us,
“I always use scheduling. I tend to set these messages as announcement content to be 100% sure they override whatever content is usually in place. Categories also aid us, we can copy a schedule to various players and ensure that messages are pushed to very specific screens.”
