"celebrating our learning community” at www.coseley.tv
Coseley School and Sports College in Dudley was where the concept of a locally served media sharing server was developed in early 2005. The school had a tradition of videoing activities such as sports events and performances and had a closed circuit TV system to play movies around the school during breaks and lunchtime. It was a very popular provision and the school was awarded funding from the Innovation Unit to update and enhance the system. Trilby was commissioned to undertake this development and devised the idea of using a local server but applying internet technologies.
A particular objective was to involve the local primary schools and look towards providing a one-stop-shop for educational videos to use on school’s interactive white boards. At that time there was a selection of video formats available so the system serves all the resources in Windows Media, QuickTime, Real or Flash.
Behind the website is a powerful search engine that makes it easy to find the clips you are looking for so teachers can soon find for example a science clip to use as the starter for a lesson. But it is the community cohesion aspect that is proving to be the most powerful quality. Look at "I dow feel like dancin" to see most of the teaching staff performing to a Scissor Sisters track. Is there any better way to communicate their sense of fun and show their students how human they really are?
